Hi Jess. I'm not sure if you know of/have been given this reference but your drawings remind me of a series of children's TV shows from the 70's called Trumpton, Camberwick Green, and Chigley. They are stopframe animated shows but they are worth looking at to get an idea of how your characters might manifest in 3D.
