  1. Hi Jess... okay,

So as per our discussion today: you've so far concentrated on video games violence - this is all useful! But, as you say, you're feeling like you're going over and over the same thing! What you need to do is show in Chapter 1 that there are 2 HISTORIES of violence:

    1) The History of Violent Past Times/ Entertainment - so you are looking to research all the different ways that the human race has developed by which to show violence for recreational reasons (play/entertainment/escapism) - sport, paintings, plays, books, tv, film, comics etc.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Savage-Pastimes-Cultural-History-Entertainment/dp/0312282761

    2) The History of People Worrying about Violent pastimes - 'moral panics' - The Video Nasties Controversy (Violent films being watch at home) - The EC Comics controversy (Horror comics corrupting youth) - Penny Dreadfuls (violent, sensational newspapers from the Victorian era) - and any other examples where a cultural artefact has been criticised for having the power to make people want to be violent. Also - the history of censorship in film as it relates to violence - for example 'The Hayes Code' in America - Mary Whitehouse (UK campaigner against violence television).

Chapter 2 - Theories of violence in humans...

Chapter 3 - Violent games etc leading up to VR - your argument being that is it possible to argue that VR DOES (or doesn't) represent a new kind of violent past time that we SHOULD (or should not) worry about, because it's the most realistic kind of violence available.

    2 jobs:

    1) Animatic - get it done, and use it to explore and understand your environments - embrace strong flat colour and bold combinations.

    2) Start constructing your little girl character in Maya - so you can work out the little nose, the 'solid hair' and the relationship between arms, legs, hands, feet and joints.

The main thing... don't be frightened, just get your hands dirty! :)
